mcquinty2Land use battles over wind turbines and gas-fired energy plants are embroiling the premier of Canada’s most populous province, who wants to create 50,000 green energy jobs in the next three years and says he won’t let NIMBYs stand in the way of the greater provincial good.

“NIMBYism will no longer prevail,” Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty said in February.

Last week, three MPPs from his own Labor party submitted petitions with thousands of signatures opposed to wind turbine and gas-fired power plants in what could only be described as “a real slap at the premier”. Robert Benzie reports in the Toronto Star.
