Inorthern_jerseyt may be a long way from slowing down global warming, but communities in northern New Jersey are looking to the past for practical lessons to make changes in lifestyle that reduce energy consumption and lower the carbon footprint.

The Record reports on local and state initiatives to promote solar panels, wind turbines and financial incentives for business to pursue alternative energy, These are happening in tandem with renewed emphasis on bicycling, recycling, downtown bike and walk paths and energy efficiency in new construction. Reporter Andrea Alexander writes that it’s no surprise as well such communities are changing master plans and rezoning to welcome those lifestyle changes.
