New Jersey aims to triple output to become world leader in wind power

corzineCalling the challenge to harness wind power “this generation’s race to the moon”, Governor Jon Corzine announced he has tripled New Jersey’s goal to produce 3000 MW of wind power off its coast by 2020, to provide 13 percent of the Garden State’s power needs.

“This is a historic day for New Jersey,” added Jeff Tittel, executive director of the New Jersey chapter of the Sierra Club. “Global warming is the single most serious threat to the planet, and offshore wind energy is the most cost-effective form or renewable alternative energy.”
