Rabbi Boruch Shlomo Cunin with Gov. Arnold SchwarzeneggerJewish neighbors in a West Los Angeles quarter dubbed the “Kosher District” are objecting to plans by Chabad, an Orthodox Jewish group, to build a new school, condos, bathhouse and stores.
This 12-block stretch near Robertson Boulevard has exploded in recent years with restaurants, shops and religious institutions that serve the neighborhood’s growing Jewish population.

Rabbi Boruch Shlomo Cunin, head of Chabad of California, said his group has been battling neighborhood opposition for the last 40 years. But these days much of it comes from its own Jewish neighbors, Tami Abdollah reports in The Los Angeles Times.
